How it works
Soul Water Sauna publishes at Portobello a purpose-built wood-fired mobile sauna with room for up to 8 people, a small semi-private changing space and room for belongings; the host tends the fire through the session and the North Sea is a few steps away. The operator says that, being mobile, its position may vary by a few metres, but the spot is the foot of Brunstane Road North, just behind the green bollards on the promenade (EH15 2DN), with a message the day before if it moves to a parallel street. There are no toilets (the nearest are at Joppa Rocks and on Bath Street), parking is free for now and the entrance has three steep steps. The community session sells seats for up to 7 people ("join up to six others"). In the sauna something must be worn below the waist, and clothing above the waist is optional; shoes stay outside. Children aged 13 and over may join community sessions when accompanied (one adult to two children); ages 6 to 12 only in private sessions. Cancellation or rescheduling up to 48 hours before. Inside there are benches on two levels and a guard around the wood-fired stove, with no timer or thermometer, and the temperature is not published. The operator asks guests to bring swimwear, two towels, plenty of water, warm clothing and flip-flops.
Booked community session sold per seat, 60 or 90 minutes, with up to 7 people.
