How it works
Wild Scottish Sauna runs six wood-fired Finnish saunas on the east coast of Scotland and publishes 55-minute social sessions with 8 guests in total, daily quiet sessions at 11am and family sessions at 1pm (ages 12 and over, at most two children per adult), plus private sessions for 10 to 12 people. The operator gives a temperature of 85 to 90 °C, asks guests to bring two towels, water and warm clothing, requires clean feet and no shoes inside the sauna, and asks that only the fresh water from the bucket be poured on the stones, in small ladles every 3 to 5 minutes. Booking is in advance through FareHarbor and possible up to 30 minutes before the start. At Shell Bay access is through Elie Holiday Park (the Shell Bay caravan site); the sauna sits on the dunes with access to the sea (the tidal draw is long), free parking at the caravan park, changing facilities and toilets on site, a restaurant and a play park. The booking calendar shows hourly sessions; no fixed opening hours are published.
