How it works
Beppu City lists Takegawara Onsen, a municipal bath founded in 1879, in its current 1938 building. The regular bath runs 6:30am to 10:30pm, and the sand bath 8am to 10:30pm, with last entry at 9:30pm and up to 8 people at a time, with no reservations. It closes on the third Wednesday of the month (the next day when it is a holiday). The water is flowing spring water; on the men's side it is sodium, calcium and magnesium chloride and bicarbonate per the city.
