How it works
The Verein Sauna Lorrainebad association runs a public open-air sauna at the Lorrainebad on the bank of the Aare, with two wood-fired sauna yurts, reception and rest yurts, one hot shower, two toilets and a unisex changing room. The season runs from late October to the end of March; on 2026-10-14 the site announces the summer break and a return on 24 October 2026. In season it opens Monday (FINTA day, for women, intersex, non-binary, trans and agender people) and Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 10am-9:30pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am-9:30pm, and is closed on Wednesdays. Löyly is agreed among the bathers present, and there are aufguss rituals with essential oils at fixed times (Tuesday 12:15, 13:15 and 14:15; Thursday and Sunday 18:15, 19:15 and 20:15; the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month 12:15, 13:15 and 14:15). Bathers can go nude or in swimwear. There are no bookings and no private groups; when full there may be a wait, and current occupancy is shown on the site. Minimum age is 18, or 12 with an adult; it is not wheelchair accessible. The address comes from a City of Bern document, which also schedules a renovation of the Lorrainebad from Q3 2026 to Q2 2028; the sauna's site does not mention the works.
