How it works
The operator publishes two 1940s concrete pools, modernized over the years, at the east base of the Steens Mountains on the edge of the Alvord Desert. The water leaves the ground at 170°F and cools as it mixes in the pools. There are on-site caretakers, a small store and reception, restrooms, bunkhouses and campsites. Overnight guests can soak at any hour; day-use visitors are welcome during business hours, and the site asks them to call ahead for availability. The site gives no day-use hours or price.
