How it works

The operator says Mehmed II built the building as a hunting lodge in 1454, with the hammam below two upper floors, that Abdulmecid renovated it in 1844 and that it opened to the public after 1923; the last renovation was in 1986. The site presents it as Istanbul's first mixed hammam and says it has served tourists in a mixed format for more than ten years. It opens every day 10am-10pm, with last arrival at 8pm; the busiest hours are 5pm-8pm. The sections are the hot room with a central stone heated from below, the hot halvet with two rooms and marble kurnas, and the cold halvet for cooling off; heating is wood-fired, from the furnace (kulhan). Guests choose a package at the entrance, change in a private cabin and wear a peshtemal; women may bring a bikini. Packages include gloves, towels, slippers, tea, homemade sherbet and Turkish delight; kese and foam bath are given by therapists. The online booking asks for the number of men, women and children. The site does not publish a full street address; the map on the contact page marks the location. The operator's site does not publish the street; the address comes from a Pegasus Airlines travel guide.

Entry by package, chosen on arrival or booked online, with optional kese, foam and massage in a mixed hammam.
